Burundi at Wimbledon 2011

Finally something good from Burundi. Hassan Ndayishimiye made it at Wimbledon tennis championships. He is likely to make it further.
Although Burundi is becoming another Somalia, where anarchy and disorder are the rules of the game, we cannot afford to give up.
Hassan Ndayishimiye currently ranks 112 in the world among juniors, which is great since Burundi ranks last in the world in matters democratic governance, in matters of economic reform and vision.
There are so many other talents in Burundi. I know many other young people abroad who used to be live in refugee camps who are doing extremely good in American schools. The potential and the talent are there. The political will to create a stimulating environment where thinkers can innovate, where doers can do and where farmers can farm without fear is still missing. But this is yet another example that Burundians can be like other citizen of the world. Can compete and do fine!

Ndayicariye Claver: Shame on you!

Dans les jardins de l'hôtel Ubuntu, les visages étaient graves. Même si Pacifique Nininahazwe,le délégué général du FORSC, a dit que ce n'était pas une soirée « d'adieu », tout le monde a compris que le moment était particulier. Ok, pour reprendre les mots de Nininahazwe, ce n'était qu'un « au revoir » mais avec un ton qui donnait la chair de poule, les mots étaient forts: « Nous nous ne te chassons pas Neela, sache que tu restes dans le cœur des milliers de Burundais.» Neela Ghoshal, représentante de Human right watch a été expulsée par le gouvernement Burundais le 18 mai 2010. Pacifique Nininahazwe est revenu sur l'engagement de Neela Ghoshal. Selon lui, celle-ci n'a ménagé aucun effort pour défendre les droits des plus faibles pendant les trois ans qu'elle vient de passer au Burundi. Plusieurs cadeaux, dont « un diplôme d'honneur » lui ont été décernés par les associations Burundaises de la société civile.

On peut chasser Neela du Burundi mais pas le Burundi de Neela

Neela Ghoshal a pour sa part remercié le peuple burundais en général et ces associations en particulier pour leur franche collaboration et leur accueil. « J'ai été bien accueilli et bien accompagné tout au long de mon séjour ici. C'était une expérience enrichissante », a-t-elle souligné.
Selon elle, on peut « la chasser du Burundi mais on ne peut pas chasser le Burundi de son cœur. » La chercheuse de Human right watch a ensuite exhorté ces associations à continuer la lutte pour les droits humains. Elle a promis que son organisation va continuer de plaider pour que le gouvernement du Burundi revienne sur sa décision.
Rappelons que la décision d'expulser Neela Ghoshal lui a été communiqué à travers une lettre datée du 18 mai 2010 par Augustin Sanze, ministre burundais des Relations extérieures. Il informait la chercheuse que le gouvernement annulait son agrément en tant que représentante de Human Right Watch au Burundi. La lettre demandait qu'elle cesse aussitôt ses activités et qu'elle quitte le pays définitivement d'ici le 5 juin.
Dans la même lettre, le gouvernement indiquait avoir pris cette décision sur base des critiques du récent rapport de Human right watch sur la violence politique dans la période pré-électorale. Le gouvernement a affirmé, entre autres, que le rapport faisait preuve d'un parti prie contre lui et le parti au pouvoir.
Plusieurs ambassadeurs et diplomates accrédités au Burundi (Belgique, France, Allemagne, Etats-Unis,le BINUB, etc) étaient venus s'associer avec la société civile burundaise attristée par l'expulsion d' une collègue déterminée. Les diplomates ont pris la parole pour louer les qualités de Neela mais aussi pour lancer un message en faveur du respect des droits de l'homme.

Burundi Scrutin, notre propre histoire qui nous hante!

Pour plus d’une semaine, les burundais votants attendent les résultats des urnes: Ce que la commission électorale indépendante (CENI) a tenté de publier n’est qu’une imagination. Les raisons : il ya encore des urnes non comptées, la CENI ne peut pas présenter au peuple Burundais les PV signés par les tous les mandataires attachés aux bureaux de vote etc.
Le problème Burundais est plus fondamentale voire même transcende les élections elles-mêmes. Ces élections viennent de prouver que les principes sur lesquels la nation est fondée son justement imaginaires : Par exemple, le concept d’Ubushingantahe est utopique. Ce scrutin et ces résultats mettent en cause la valeur même de ce que ca signifie être Umushingantahe. Avez-vous écouté ces gens qui se sont permis d’aller sur les ondes pour soutenir « ibisutamye » comme on le disait ? Quelle inspiration donnent-ils à leurs enfants ? Que la fin justifie les moyens? Que c'est OK de mentir? En tout cas nul de neuf vraiment. C’est l’histoire de ce petit pays de Mwezi Gisabo qui nous hante.
Supposons que tricher en soit n’est complètement mauvais, en fait Gorges Bush a aussi triché pour son réélection contre Al gore. Mais tricher comme l’a fait le pouvoir CNDD-FDD montre une immaturité, une ignorance et, bref son inaptitude de se présenter comme leader d’un pays complexe comme le notre. Le peuple Burundais n’est pas ignorant, tout simplement pauvre. Disons que si le parti de Nkurunziza s'ést donné 40 pourcent des votes et diviser le reste aux autres partis; les partis d’opposition se seraient demander s’ils avaient fournis d’effort nécessaire pour sensibiliser leur membres plus tôt de penser qu’il s’agissait d’un scrutin triché. Merci au CNDD-FDD de nous rappeler que ta raison d’être est simplement nous ramener le monopartisme que tu as combattu : c’est l’histoire de ce petit pays de Mwezi Gisabo qui nous hante.
Aux partis de l’opposition, celui-ci n’est pas le temps de retourner à Kigobe, Kajaga, Arusha…c’est plut tôt un moment favorable pour nous signifier que nous n’avons pas besoin de 45 partis politique dans ce petit pays. Que en fait vous representer un peuple affamé de justice; paix et pain.
Le problème du scrutin est moral en mon avis. Personne n’est obligé d’être un héros à quiconque sauf ses propres enfants. Pour l’amour de nos enfants, léguez à vos enfant ce que Buyoya, Michombero, Bikomagu etc n’ont pas laissé aux leurs ! La solution est simple; on ne devient riche que quand on est honnête et puis « aho muri hari abandi, kandi n’ejo hazoba hari abandi ». Votre prochaine tâche est de demander à l’Eternel de vous donner mille et une années de vie pour nous subjuguer à votre terreur. Même Hitler est passé, Boyoya est tombé, Mandela libéré…il vous faut tout simplement de lire l’histoire !

Portrait of the 2010 Burundian presidential Candidates

With a dozen of candidates already announced for the coming presidential Burundian election, we thought we can give a short portrait of each candidate. Today, we wish to talk about Leonard Nyangoma. Please feel free to add additional information that you might know about this candidate: Here we exercise free speech to objectively inform. Remember:"Utora nabi ugatwarwa nabi"!

It is almost impossible to summarize the feats of Honorable Leonard Nyangoma in few pages. But I can fearlessly allow myself to state that Mr Nyangoma has contributed to the freedom, and the fulfillment of the independence of the People of Burundi at the rank of Prince Louis Rwagasore: Where as Rwagasore fought the white men, Nyangoma and his followers fought injustice, fought inequality, fought against the colonization of some Burundians toward their fellow Burundians. In the following paragraphs, we wish to explore the biography and major political accomplishments of honorable Leonard Nyangoma actual presidential candidate of the CNDD party he founded after the assassination of SE Melchior Ndadaye in 1993.
Honorable Leonard Nyangoma was born in Bururi, a southern province of the Republic of Burundi in 1952. He graduated from the University of Burundi in 1979 obtaining a degree in Mathematics. His public service has been in the field of education. Those who had had a chance to be taught by this genius recall those times where such a thing as Maths Club existed in High schools…
Nyangoma is a known pioneer of the workers’ union movement in Burundi: he was a leader of the Burundian workers’ movement since 1988 to 1993. Among his greatest initiative is his fierce participation in the creation of the current coalition of the protection of Human rights known to many as League Iteka, the creation of the current union of teachers known to many as syndicat SLEB…we can go on and on! What most morons of the Burundian political history ignore, is that Honorable Nyangoma stood up to denounce publically the ethnic and regional discrimination of the political regimes of the time (see Ninde.org).
In the struggle for equality, Honorable Nyangoma co founded Frodebu in 1988. His role as a great organizer led to a massive victory in 1993. His plan was to bring politics to the communities, to the hills and actively involve the mass, a simple principle, which is indeed what Democracy is all about. He was then elected as Member of Parliament in 1993 and appointed as Minister of public service and refugee affairs.
Honorable Nyangoma was among the top leaders targeted by the Burundian army in the planned assassination that left the Hutu community mourning the death of SE Ndadaye Melchior and many of his collaborators. Some Tutsi were targeted and killed such as Jules Bimazubute, etc. Nyangoma was then appointed by the leaders in Exile to head a massive popular resistance against the murderers. Thus was born the CNDD and its armed wing FDD; that was in September of 94. NO ONE, can deny the fact that the real popular resistance and the walk toward the kind of peace that Burundi has today starts here. This is not to undermine the effort by Palipehutu and Frolina that were born before this date, however, a national campaign against the Buyoya regime and those convinced of a Burundi for only some began here, with the Leadership of Leonard Nyangoma.
One has to mention that in the years that followed, problems inside and outside the party led to a separation between CNDD and CNDD-FDD. For those who are free enough to think, we understand that regionalism is a sensitive issue any enemy can use to divide a party of the magnitude of CNDD.
Today, Nyangoma remains the most vocal leader of opposition that dares to publically denounce the abuse of power, the incompetence and corruption of the Nkurunziza led government. His party, CNDD writes annually an objective report of the shortcoming of Mr Nkurunziza and his regime.
Leonard Nyangoma was elected as a presidential candidate for the CNDD. We wish him the best of luck and we would like to finish this with a quote from Ninde.org about Nyangoma. It is in French and we apologize for those who don’t read the language of Moliere. Translation on demand!
